AROUND DHAULAGIRI - 16/18 DAYS

Trekking to Dhaulagiri starts from Beni (830m), in the lower areas of the Annapurna valley which is reachable by road alongside the Kali Gandaki. After a one day drive, we stay overnight in a local lodge and next morning we may opt to drive further depending on the road situation. Once we have packed up our gear we start the trek by following the  Myagdi Khola westward to Darbang. Dhaulagiri (8167m) is the sixth highest mountain in the world with its eastern flank being familiar to Annapurna circuit trekkers. The vast bulk of  Dhaulagiri shelters the barren loads of Dolpo to the west.

In the early trek days there are many  small villages which reduce as we turn north on a tiny trail through forests into the high country. Much of the route is on snow and glaciers and can be subjected to avalanches as it crosses The French Col (5240m), traverses the head of  The Hidden Valley and crosses the 5155m Dhampus pass. The trek ends with a steep descent to Marpha and a short trek up to Jomsom where we stay overnight in a lodge ready for the next morning flight to Pokhara. We stay in Pokhara to rest and explore the sights around Fewa Lake etc. Next day we take our flight back to Kathmandu. This trek is recommend only to adventurous, mountain trekkers.
