Description

This is a journey for non-trekkers which begins in the Kathmandu valley with sightseeing in Hindu and Buddhist monuments, temples, arts which show 6th century history of Malla era culture and traditions. We fly to Lhasa and understand Buddhist culture and history of religious Kings like Songtsen Gompo, uniting warring tribes and conquering many neighboring lands.  It is also a wonderful experience to be in the place where Guru Padmasambhava,  Milarepa, Tsong Khapa, Atisha, Brikuti and many other reincarnated Rinboches as Gurus and hermits who have different roles to bring up philosophy of Buddhism.
 
We visit the market of Barkhor which is the local market and very special monastery, Jhokang. A lot of people with extreme devotion by doing kora (circle) by prostrating whole body or by walking are the special spiritual experience. Explore the popular Potala palace, Norbulinka and Drepung monastery and others which are focused on different sects like Ningmapa, Kagyupa, Gelugpa etc.  Drive towards Nepal border via Gyantse and Shigatse. Visit the Tashilungpo, views of Turquoise colour lakes and another highlight of panoramic view of Himalaya. We drive and hike at Mt. Everest Base Camp and experience the coldest temperature and basic need experience in extreme climate.
 
Due to the destructive earthquake in year 2015, previous road via Tibet-Nepal border has not been fully reconstructed yet. After visit to Shigatse or extended trip to Everest base camp, we drive back to Lhasa to fly out back to Kathmandu and have an overnight stay at Bhaktapur where you might feel as it is disconnected with modern day. It has lots of temples, monuments, open courtyards, narrow alleys is a treat. Frequent Newari community holy parade takes place early in the morning with local musical instruments like Dhime (drum), wooden flute; bells etc. circle around the temples. Early morning interesting local activities can be seen near Taumadhi Square, en route to Pottery Square.  Devotees are all around with flowers or offerings. Every morning at 8 a.m. big bell rings since 18th century as a homage to Goddess Taleju. Explore around. Next day we drive back to Kathmandu.
Day 01: Visit Swayambhunth, Boudhanath and Patan in Kathmandu during visa application process
Day 02-04: Fly to Lhasa (3650m) - visit the most popular palace/fortress of Lhasa, Potala Palace and many other sacred places like Jokhang, Sera, Drepung and Barkhor. The arts in the monasteries are so authentic and special. Best way to acclimatize and explore.
Day 05: Drive to Gyantse (3650m), which was the 3rd largest city and 254 km. Visit to Palkor and Khumbum monastery which was the main Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. Visit the ruined but spectacular fortress.
Day 06: Drive back to Shigatse (3900m), 2nd largest city of Tsang provance. Rest
Day 07: Visit Tashi Lhungpo complex, the oldest and largest Gelugpa monastery which has thrown of Panchen Lama. Visit to local market and Shigatse fortress (Dzong).
Day 08: Drive back to Lhasa and rest or explore to local market.
Day 09: An excursion trip to Namtso Lake (4718m) about 190 km. Most attractive view of turquoise color lake with innumerable birds, great mountain range with massive grass land and scattered herds around.
